Art and the City of Santa Monica

I'm bitter against my betters, the City of Santa Monica. Their bus stops are prettier, their dog parks are closed to us (non-residents using the City of Santa Monica's dog parks face fines), their streets are many fold more bicycle ready and cleaner than ours, and their air is cooler.

Ten years ago I lived on the last block before the beach on the border of the cities of Santa Monica and Venice. Now I pay double that rent to live on the last block before the 405 in West Los Angeles. And in those ten years the City of Santa Monica has just become more beautiful and advantageous and West Los Angeles has remained just as disgusting.

I should be grateful to be allowed to attend the city workshops, to which I bus, but there's resentment. I think there's also resentment of credentials in the arts.

Workshop Description:

Sponsored by the City of Santa Monica

Good news! I've already written my poem!

That Will Be Enough for Us.

May this flag fly long in Santa Monica,
where I cannot afford to.
And if land can be bought for trinkets,
which historically it can,
please take these beads and secure
a 400 square foot lot of beach
for me and my Pomeranian.

  1. We don't have any dog parks in Altadena. Not official ones, anyway. And wouldn't matter from my perspective, as Albert doesn't much care for dogs.

    1. I haven't read Albert's name in your posts, so I don't know if he's your dog, cat or husband. but if he changes his mind there's a really nice dog park in Pasadena.
